Rakesh Ushar was born in Thrissur to Raghunath Kumar, a retired government employee, and Usha Devi. He began his education at CMS Boys in Thrissur, later earning an undergraduate degree from Kerala Varma College before pursuing a degree in civil engineering at Government Engineering College, Thrissur. After a seven-year gap, he completed a two-year MSW program at Kalady Sanskrit University.
Rakesh launched his career in theater before transitioning to the film industry in 2016. He started as an assistant writer to Thrissur Gopalji on a film script. Subsequently, he worked as an assistant to Suraj Venjaramood on "Android Kunjappan" and served as an assistant director to K Sethunath for "Liquor Island." His work as an assistant director on "Nna Than Kes Kodu" also included playing the role of CPO Rakesh Haridas.
