Born and raised on Värmlands Näs in Säffle, Henrik Sjöman grew up surrounded by the creative influence of his parents, Eva and Bo Sjöman. From childhood, he was drawn to filmmaking, crafting his own movies long before formal training. His passion led him to study theatre at Munkfors Teatergymnasium and later at Blekinge Läns Folkhögskola, where he honed his craft.
Sjöman began appearing in short films and feature productions, but his ambition soon turned to writing and directing. In 2006, he wrote, directed, and produced his first short film, marking the beginning of his career behind the camera.
His major breakthrough came in the summer of 2009 with the release of *På djupet*, his debut feature film. The project showcased his ability to helm a full-scale production, featuring a cast that included Rickard Ihre, Emilie Holm, Jens Nyqvist, Tim Nilsson, Magnus Sundberg, Annika Olsson, Robert P. Olsson, and Michael Mansson. The film stands as a testament to Sjöman's early dedication and vision, laying the foundation for his ongoing work in Swedish cinema.
